Ingredients to prepare Polvorosas
How To Make Polvorosas
Step 1: We begin the elaboration of our polvorosas, for it, in a bowl we add the lard, the sugar and with the help of a fork or spatula, we integrate very well.
Step 2: In another bowl, add the flour, salt, sugar, cinnamon and mix, then pour this mixture into the lard and sugar mixture and with the help of your hands, begin to knead until a compact dough is formed.
Step 3: Take a small portion of the dough and form a small ball, then flatten it and give it a circular shape as shown in the video (it should have a height of 1 cm), place it on a baking sheet and repeat the process until all the dough is used up (leave a space of 3 cm between each of the dough balls so that they do not stick together when baking).
Step 4: We take our polvorosas to the oven (preheated to 155 ºC / 311 ºF) and cook them for 30 minutes, after the cooking time, we remove the polvorosas from the oven and let them cool, you will see that they come out soft, but they will compact as they cool (it is very important not to handle the polvorosas once they are removed from the oven, as we run the risk of them falling apart in our hands, we must wait for them to cool so that they finish compacting).
Step 5: Once they have compacted, add a little powdered sugar on top and we have ready our delicious polvorosas, enjoy them.
Tips for preparing Polvorosas
The original recipe for Venezuelan polvorosas is made with lard, but you can also use vegetable shortening, but never use butter or margarine, the result will be different.
Before starting the recipe you must melt the lard in the microwave, then let it cool until it has a solid texture.
At the moment of baking, you should leave a space of about 3 cm between them, so that they do not stick during baking.
Bake the polvorosas on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.
To shape the dough, take a small amount of the dough and form a small ball, then flatten it a little and give it a circular shape, it should have a diameter of about 3 cm and a height of about 1 cm.
It is very important not to manipulate the polvorosas once they are removed from the oven, since we run the risk of them falling apart in our hands, we must wait for them to cool so that they finish compacting, you will see that they come out soft but it does not mean that they are raw, with the rest they will compact perfectly.
The texture of the polvorosas is very sandy, they basically melt in your mouth, so that is the correct texture they should have.
