The arepa is a dish made of precooked corn flour with a round and flattened shape, it can be cooked roasted in a frying pan or fried in oil and can be filled with countless ingredients, today we are going to prepare arepa stuffed with tuna, an extremely simple recipe for our breakfasts or dinners, we will also use other ingredients such as tomato, onion, mayonnaise and ketchup to enhance our filling, although we can add the ingredients that we like the most.
As for preparing the arepa dough, it is also an extremely simple task, where we only need to mix the precooked corn flour with a little salt and water, this step will be detailed below in our videos. Ingredients
- 300 g. (2 cups) of precooked corn flour
- 450 ml. (2 1/2 cups) water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 260 g. (9 oz.) of tuna fish
- 2 diced tomatoes
- 1 spring onion, diced
- 6 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons of ketchup
- Salt to taste
How To Make It
Step 1:
We begin the preparation of our stuffed arepa, for this, in a bowl add the flour, salt, water and begin to knead until a smooth and homogeneous dough, then we take a portion of dough, we form a kind of ball, then we flatten it and mold it to give it a circular shape as shown in the video (we repeat this step until the dough is used up), then we put it in a frying pan over medium heat, we let it cook for 7 minutes, then we turn it over, we cook it for about 7 more minutes or until it is toasted on both sides.
Step 2:
In a bowl add the tuna, tomato, onion, parsley, mayonnaise, ketchup, a little salt and pepper, stir until all the ingredients are completely integrated, set aside.
Step 3:
Once the arepas are toasted, remove them from the pan, open them in the middle with a knife, fill them with the tuna mixture and our delicious stuffed arepas are ready.
Tips To Prepare It
You can use a frying pan or griddle to cook the arepas or if you wish you can also fry the arepas.
If you see that the dough of the arepas is a little hard add more water, if you see that it is too soft add a little more flour.
If you like it spicy add a touch of sriracha to the tuna filling, it goes great.
