The sweet and sour sauce is one of the most popular sauces in Chinese cuisine, there are many varieties in terms of ingredients to use, but the traditional recipe for sweet and sour sauce is prepared with sugar, salt and rice vinegar, but also often use ingredients such as ketchup, spices, fruits, among others.
The sweet and sour sauce as its name suggests, is a sauce with sweet and sour flavors, which combines perfectly with many food dishes, such as a rich spring rolls or delicious shrimp rolls! sweet and sour sauce is usually sold ready-made in supermarkets, but as always, I recommend you to prepare it at home because it is more natural and free of additives and preservatives!
The sweet and sour sauce can also be used to prepare quick versions of popular Asian dishes such as sweet and sour chicken or sweet and sour pork. To do so, simply coat the chicken or pork pieces in batter, fry and then cook for a couple of minutes in a frying pan together with the sweet and sour sauce.

Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 cup water
- 4 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 and 1/2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 grated carrot
- Chili pepper
How To Make It
Step 1:
We begin the preparation of our Chinese sweet and sour sauce, for this, in a frying pan at medium temperature, add the sugar, salt and stir, then add the rice vinegar, water, bring to a boil and let it cook for a couple of minutes.
Step 2:
Add the carrot and the chili pepper and cook until reduced.
Step 3:
Add the tomato sauce, mix and let it cook for a couple of minutes, remove from the heat and we have our delicious Chinese sweet and sour sauce ready!
Tips To Prepare It
If you are not a fan of spiciness, do not add the chili pepper.
