- 200 g. grated mozzarella cheese
- 30 g. butter
- 8 g. salt
How To Make It
Step 1: We begin the preparation of our Colombian cheese arepa, for this, in a bowl we add the corn flour, salt, water and begin to knead until we obtain a smooth and homogeneous dough, then we add the butter, cheese and continue kneading until both ingredients are fully integrated to the dough.
Step 2: Then we take a portion of dough, form a kind of ball, then we flatten it and mold it to give it a circular shape as shown in the video (we repeat this step until we use up the dough for the arepas).
Step 3: In a frying pan at medium temperature, place the arepas and cook them for 7 minutes, then turn them over, cook them for another 7 minutes or until they are toasted on both sides and we can enjoy our delicious Colombian arepas with cheese.
Tips To Prepare It
To prepare the Colombian cheese arepa we can use either mozzarella cheese or Latin cheese.
One of the important points when preparing the arepa is the dough, we must add enough water to make it soft and homogeneous, otherwise it can be hard and when we give it a circular shape it will crack around the edges, also once they are cooked, the texture is less smooth.
What can we accompany this recipe with?
Traditionally, cheese arepas are usually served with avocado, hogao (tomato and onion sauce), cream (thick cream), or even with a little extra butter and a cup of Colombian coffee, we can also fill or accompany with other ingredients such as ham, meat, chicken or bacon, among others.
