Ingredients

  • 4 slices of sliced bread
  • Slices of ham to taste
  • Emmental cheese to taste (grated, sliced, in pieces or as you prefer)
  • 2 fried eggs
  • 250 ml. (1 cup) of hot milk
  • 40 g. (3 tablespoons) butter
  • 30 g. (3/4 cup) all-purpose flour
  • Nutmeg to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How To Make It

Step 1: We begin the preparation of our croque madame, for this, we prepare our béchamel sauce, in a saucepan over medium heat, add the butter until melted, then add the flour and stir until a paste is formed, then add the hot milk and continue stirring until a thick texture is obtained, add a little salt, a little pepper, a little nutmeg, stir and remove from heat (let cool).

Step 2: In a baking dish place 2 slices of bread, then add some of the bechamel sauce, add the cheese (it can be grated, sliced, in strips or as you prefer), then add slices of ham and cover both breads with the other two slices, add more bechamel sauce on top, emmental cheese and bake in the oven to gratin.
