Arepas are so versatile that we can fill them with almost anything, in today's recipe we will prepare them with mortadella and a soft cheese which we will cook in the pan to obtain a soft and crunchy cheese, a super simple recipe to include in your breakfasts or dinners of the week.
Ingredients
- Mortadella
- Soft cheese
- 2 cups pre-cooked corn flour
- 2 1/2 cups of water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
How To Make It
Step 1: We begin the preparation of our mortadella and cheese arepa, In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and water, kneading until the dough is smooth and uniform. Take a portion of the dough, roll it into a ball, then flatten and shape it into a circular disc (as shown in the video) and repeat this process until all the dough is used. Place the arepa in a preheated skillet over medium heat. Cook for about 7 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 7 minutes, or until both sides are golden and toasted.
Step 2: Next we cut our cheese in slices of approximately one finger thick and cook it in a frying pan at medium temperature until it has browned on both sides, finally we open our arepa and fill it to taste with the mortadella and cheese.

You can use the cheese you like the most, normally we use soft cheese or some semi-cured cheese.
